Is Your Strictness Causing Secretive Behaviours in Your Kids

b'This topic today came about because Rosie was talking to a good friend of ours about schooling options like public school, private school, and home school. He told us an interesting concept that you don’t want to be one of those parents that denies your children access to something like sugar cereals, and then they go to a friend’s house and scarf that kind of thing because they’ve been so deprived of it. Explaining to kids the reason why you have certain rules or why they should be doing certain things, and then working with them to create a healthy balance is the ideal action plan for preventing secretive behaviours.

 • Feeling bad and just wanting to do the right thing 2:00
 • Explaining why you’re doing what you’re doing 6:40
 • Kids just want more 9:40
 • Help them understand 14:50
 • Taking opportunity to discuss the “Why” 23:05

“If I’m taking [marshmallows] from the cupboard and one of the kids sees me, if they haven’t had a treat yet, I always automatically hand it to the child that has caught me because I don’t want to make a big deal about it. You don’t want to be secretive.” 19:14
