Episode 15 - Addiction Explained: Is Addiction a Choice or a Disease?

Published: Sept. 17, 2021, 5 p.m.

Do you or someone you love struggle with an addiction?  Do you feel confused when confronted with the reality that those who are addicted go back to their destructive choices again and again, with seemingly no regard to the consequences?

There is not doubt about it, addiction is confusing.  What may start as a choice to participate in a certain behavior or try a substance can quickly hijack the brains pleasure center located in the mid-brain.  When this happens, a persons addiction takes center role in the brains instinct for survival.

In this episode, Kelly and Jessica share their knowledge and personal experiences as they discuss why they believe addiction is a disease or a choice.  In hopes to help others to come to a deeper understanding of addiction so that others may release some of the stigma and shame associated with addiction, they try to shine a light into the center of this complicated issue.
