GaptoothDiva cracks up with Tony Kinte’ Brown, Richmond’s Conscious Comedian who is taking our culture’s social issues and making them into laughs. This Richmond native as appeared in various venues through the area, informing his fans of the important values of African American historical culture and education. With what he coined as Conscious Comedy, he performs sketch comedy, skits and stand-up despite negative feedback from others Influenced by such greats as Richard Pryor, Paul Mooney, Redd Fox and Dave Chappelle, Tony Kinte Brown’s comedic style and talents all aim to inform and educate through laughter and understanding of our culture, our history, and most of all our selves. When asked what his goals and aspirations were, his response is, “to Raise Civic Awareness, Increase Cultural Understanding, Promote Joy through Laughter, and Enlighten with Conscious Comedy.”
