The big idea: Jeff Bezos’s garage start-up shook up industries and eventually became one of the world’s most innovative and influential companies. Colin Kaepernick sparked an awakening when he, alone, knelt during the national anthem before a football game. In 2006, Tarana Burke coined the viral phrase that became the #MeToo movement of today.
It takes just one person to spark a movement, change minds—and create a legacy.
The so-what: Contrary to conventional wisdom, a legacy isn’t what’s written in your obituary. It’s what you create every day. And with a dark pandemic driving 51% of us to think more about our mortality, it’s high time we started today.
The key messages: A consultant to Fortune 500 executives, state governors, entrepreneurs, athletes, and entertainers, New York Times bestselling author ALAN WEISS, PH.D., offers unvarnished truths on what it takes to give our lives true meaning.
The source: ALAN WEISS, PH.D., is a consultant, speaker, and bestselling author. Described by the New York Post as “one of the most highly regarded independent consultants in America,” his consulting firm, Summit Consulting Group, Inc., has attracted clients such as Merck, Hewlett-Packard, GE, Mercedes-Benz, and more than 500 leading organizations. He is the author of more than 60 books, many of which have been included in university curricula and translated into 15 languages. His new book is Your Legacy Is Now: Life Is Not a Search for Meaning from Others—It's the Creation of Meaning for Yourself (Routledge; March 18, 2021).
