Despite being one of London’s most exciting new bands in 1964, the Kinks were off to a rocky start. After releasing two singles which flopped, Pyle Records was threatening to drop the band if the next single wasn’t a hit. “You Really Got Me” saved their careers and created their most iconic track. More than that, this song’s revolutionary sound and attitude would forever change the course of rock guitarists. This was a harder edged sound unlike the Beatles, and not blues-based as the Rolling Stones.
