Jamael Tito Brown was elected the 51st Mayor of the City of Youngstown on November 7th, 2017. During his campaign, he pledged to make Youngstown better by attracting more living-wage jobs and new innovative commerce, ensuring safety in all neighborhoods, and decreasing brain drain.\r\n\r\nSince taking office, Youngstown was awarded a multi-million federal BUILD grant to develop multimodal access between key employers in Mahoning Valley as well as being chosen for the $2.25M Comeback Capital Fund which creates a bridge between Silicon Valley investors and Midwest startups.\r\n\r\nBut the city still faces challenges including an aging and declining population with a 40 percent poverty rate, a stagnant tax base, and the loss of major employers which threaten the city\'s economic future.
