Captain Marvel is the first woman featured and women-co-directed film in the MCU - following quickly on the heels of DC Comics Wonder Woman, released in 2017. However, history has always featured strong women, from the days of Joan of Arc to the 117 women elected to Congress this past year. What does this newly found visibility for women mean for future generations? Why is Captain Marvel different? And who is still missing from film and other mainstream media?
