b'Lin Shaye talks being named the Godmother of Horror, her wide range of acting roles, becoming the face of the Insidious franchise, and the time she auditioned for Jack Nicholson!\\nAbout Lin:\\nBorn and raised in Detroit, Michigan,\\xa0Lin Shaye\\xa0loved \\u201cstorytelling\\u201d so much that\\xa0even as a child and knew that she was destined to act. She performed in plays at the University of Michigan\\xa0and later\\xa0was accepted into Columbia University\\u2019s Master of Fine Arts program in acting, from which she graduated. While in NY she also studied with Uta Hagan, Stella Adler, and Lee Strasberg.\\xa0After graduation, she worked with the best and brightest in New York theater, including the infamous Joseph Papp.\\nShaye\\xa0made her film debut in New York in \\u201cHester Street\\u201d where she portrayed a Polish prostitute, to her mother\\u2019s chagrin. Shortly thereafter, she\\xa0took a gamble and\\xa0flew to Los Angeles after hearing that Jack Nicholson was interested in meeting her for the role. She was cast in his film \\u201cGoin\\u2019 South.\\u201d\\xa0Shaye\\xa0has become undoubtedly one of the industry\\u2019s greatest chameleons. The Farrelly Brothers cast her in a series of memorable characters beginning with their 1994 hit comedy \\u201cDumb and Dumber\\u201d,\\xa0\\xa0and then as\\xa0the infamous landlady in \\u201cKingpin\\u201d opposite Woody Harrelson, and\\xa0again\\xa0as\\xa0the character\\xa0Magda, the sun-withered neighbor of Cameron Diaz in their hit\\xa0film \\u201cThere\\u2019s Something About Mary.\\u201d\\xa0\\xa0Shaye\\xa0was also unforgettable as the KISS-hating mom in \\u201cDetroit Rock City\\u201d and as Sonia, the tough German/Swedish coach in \\u201cBoat Trip\\u201d with Cuba Gooding, Jr. In a dramatic change of pace, she received critical acclaim in "The Hillside Strangler" as the alcoholic mother opposite Nick Turturro and C. Thomas Howell.\\xa0\\nThe horror genre also found\\xa0Lin\\xa0starting with a cult favorite "Critters" and then on\\xa0to Wes Craven\\u2019s \\u201cNightmare on Elm Street\\u201d which paved the way for more in the genre. She worked on a trio of movies with director Tim Sullivan:, \\u201c2001 Maniacs,\\u201d starring opposite Robert Englund, its sequel, \\u201c2001 Maniacs: Field of Screams\\u201d and Sullivan\\u2019s "Chillerama".\\xa0Shaye\\xa0also starred in the\\xa0cult classic\\xa0\\u201cSnakes on a Plane\\u201d opposite Samuel L. Jackson, and the independent films "The Signal", "Jack Goes Home", "Abattoir",\\xa0"Buster\'s Mal Heart" and "The Midnight Man" reuniting with Robert England..\\xa0In 2010 she found herself in the blockbuster hit \\u201cInsidious\\u201d directed by James Wan, which led to \\u201cInsidious Chapter 2, \\u201cInsidious: Chapter 3,\\u201d and the successful 4th\\xa0film in the series "Insidious: The Last Key" in which Shaye had now had become according to James Wan: \\u201cthe name of the franchise.\\u201d\\xa0She\\xa0also starred\\xa0in Sony\'s \\u201cThe Grudge" directed by Nicolas Pesce and\\xa0the feature\\xa0"Dreamkatcher"\\xa0which she served as an executive producer.\\xa0Shaye\\xa0served as a producer and\\xa0starred\\xa0opposite horror icon Tobin Bell in \\u201cThe Call\\u201d directed by Timothy Woodward.\\xa0She most recently starred in \\u201cTed Bundy:American Boogeyman\\u201d and next appears in the film \\u201cFrank & Penelope\\u201d.\\nShaye\\xa0has a solid resume in television as well with guest appearances which include "American Gothic", and "Still the King".
