#31 - Apple Watch Impressions

In between recording this week's episode and writing these show notes, I went to my local gas station to buy some propane, and also to test out Apple Pay on my new watch. The young lady ringing me up must have been newish at her job, because she had another employee walking her through how one rings up propane. I had my audience. "I wonder if this will work..." I said, moving my wrist close to the NFC terminal. Another employee behind the counter took notice, and narrowed her eyes slightly trying to figure out what I was trying to do. The NFC terminal made a beep noise. I moved my wrist away. And for a moment, everybody in that gas station, including me, held their breath. Was I just a crazy person with no money and a weird blue watch? Would I have to be removed forcibly from the premises? Time stood still. "It went through," the trainer woman behind the counter said, breaking the tension after what felt like an eternity. Her face bore an expression of pure astonishment. "What is that thing?" "It's my new Apple Watch," I replied, feeling, for a moment, like the biggest badass in the world. In this episode of Techdown, I maybe come across as overly negative about the Apple Watch. The truth is, I think that there are going to be some really cool experiences that I have with my new toy, and I'm very much looking forward to them.
