b'Episode 154 of Stranger Connections Podcast:

"Leadership, in my mind, was simple. It was all based on respect and trust." ~ Marilyn Moss Rockefeller

Prepare to be genuinely \'wowed\' by the fantastic story of Marilyn Moss Rockefeller.
Her book is "Mountain Girl; from barefoot to boardroom" and it is the remarkable story of a life that began on an impoverished Appalachian farm to the boardroom of a multi-million-dollar company, and eventually marrying into one of America\'s most famous families: the Rockefellers.

There is no way Marilyn ever thought she would one day create a multi-million-dollar company with absolutely no business experience. But backing away from a challenge was never her style. Ever.

Widely recognized as a successful and socially responsible business leader, Marilyn co-founded Moss Tent Works with Bill Moss in 1975. Eventually becoming president / CEO, she was recognized by New Hope for Women for establishing supportive workplace policies for domestic violence victims.

In this episode:

  • Being raised by grandparents in West Virginia; the effects of returning to her Mother
  • Living in a \'paper\' home and traveling in a \'paper\' boat
  • Obtaining a pilot license / two different crashes in one night
  • Getting arrested while pregnant
  • Being one of the first business owners to offer insurance to a gay couple
