Tonight's special guest is Morgan Whiting from Louisville, Kentucky. She experienced emotional and physical abuse growing up, but did not realize the level of abuse she'd experienced until she was much older. "From one of my parents, I remember being hit and smacked with switches," she says. "But the emotional abuse is what stuck and continues to be a part of life today. I am also a survivor of adult domestic violence and sexual violence. Some of my major feelings we confusion, a high sense of anxiety, and isolated-where do I turn? Who can I trust?" Morgan explains, "I was adopted at 2 weeks old to two mommas and grew up in Corydon, Indiana. I have 2 brothers, 2 sisters, several nieces and nephews and extended family. But for my story, my chosen family is incredibly important because I had to find safety and support." As she says, "I will forever live with my trauma. I had not effectively moved into my healing until 2020. I had been through numerous therapists but none that truly helped until this last year. I go to therapy with my trauma and leave with it. What I am working hard to learn is how to be my best self while living with my trauma and how to transform it into good." Morgan is now an activist. "Today, I serve as the Statewide Sexual Assault Response Team Coordinator for the Indiana Coalition to End Sexual Assault and Human Trafficking. I train teams made of up prosecutors, law enforcement, advocates, and Sexual Assault Nurse Examiners to respond effectively to sexual violence cases in their counties. I am co-chair the Southern Indiana Human Trafficking Coalition and train community members [about] human trafficking."
