Dossier 3: The Shooting Death of Bernita White

Published: April 30, 2019, 9 a.m.

b'Prior to June, 2001, a newsworthy event at Potter Park outside of Lansing, Michigan would be music being played too loud from a car stereo. Occasionally, police would be called on a report of kids drinking alcohol in the parking lot after dark. That changed in the middle of a perfect summer afternoon, when a shot rang out, and a 41-year-old mother of two fell to the ground. The shot had come from a high-powered rifle, and the sniper hadn’t been seen by any witnesses. Bernita White had been walking into the park’s zoo with her 5-year-old daughter. For nearly 18 years, Bernita’s shooting death has gone unsolved. Although police have interviewed more than 500 people, no arrests have ever been made… leaving those closest to Bernita White wonder who could have wanted her dead, and why. Thank you Chris Christoff for your time and assistance on this Dossier!
