Blood Magick: Part One

Published: Dec. 16, 2020, midnight

Gather round the cauldron, lovelies! Today’s episode takes us into the world of blood magic. This particular aspect of the Craft has been around since the very beginning, and it’s been maligned for likely just as long.

In Part One I look a bit at the history of blood magic, including some curiously off-putting applications from well-regarded history books. I also look at how the use of blood in magic is portrayed--unsurprisingly inaccurately--in media. Most important, I talk about the use of blood in one’s own work, and how to approach this powerful and sometimes a little scary practice.

Part Two will cover more of the practicalities, how to safely and effectively use blood, what workings can really benefit from blood, and the all-important after care of blood (and all other kinds) of magic.

I’d love to hear from you about your own experiences working with blood! Any questions you might have, any concerns, any comments, let me know. This is an area that has a lot of stigma of varying kinds. While I firmly believe it should be approached with respect, I also don’t think it’s as frightening as it’s often been portrayed.
