Ladies and gentlemen, welcome to another episode of the Sporremark Poddar en Film Podcast! To all you new listeners, I am a swedish filmmaker trying to make my first feauture film, and through the podcast i meet an creative person every episode. This person tells us about their smart brain and gives me a task in order to come one step closer to my feauture! So, in this episode we’ll meet the wonderful Allison Norrington! She’s been working with disney imaginering and other amazing companies and she’s full of good tips and trix! Tips to filmmakers: Find the theme of your story Be clear of how you want your audience to feel after they’ve experienced your story Take your story and see how it feels if you rolled it back or forward 30-40 years Task to me Look on how you could create a brand or a franchise of your idea? “The biggest thing to figuer out for filmmakers is” Who are your audience? What does succes look like? a good thing is to underpromise - and then everything over that is a succes About Allison She got into storytelling kind of by accident because she felt like strange stuff always happened to her. And when she told people about the stuff nobody belived her so she deciced to write a book about all that... stuff. One thing led to another and she got a three book deal with a publisher! (Oh ,and she single mom to two boys when she wrote the books!) It was kind of Bridget Jones style books, but she wanted to make it a bit more cultural aspect. She wanted the readers to hear the music and see the paintings the charachters experienced. So she started a masters in creative writing and took a New Media course in that. here she really found her home and discovered the world she wanted to live in. With her fourth book she tryed to tell her story on all different kind of platforms. so she used all the forums that she could but it was kind of like “hosting parties where nobody showed up”. Well, when she went on a vacacion she posted a oppertunity for people to get a postcard from the character and suprisingly she got over a hudnred requests. That led to magazins contacting her and tv shows and much more! Some advices The minute you start writing your story in formula the heart and soul gets out of the project its about understanding core things of your story the theme of your story serves so many purpose - alla of your experience of your story should be based on your theme take a step back to find the theme of your story - ask why is it important for you to get that story out? find the “heartbeat” of your story if you have a clear theme you can spread it to your team . cause at some point you need more people in your project and they need to be on the same page When you’re thinking about different transmedia stuff you need to go back and think why you would do it. the biggest problem is a blind rush to platform and a desperation for communication with the audience - without knowing why they wanna talk to the audience Some links: storycentral.com twitter: storycentral dark knight case study https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VpuC7HhCPWA
