His books, including The Secret of Happy Children, Raising Boys, The New Manhood and now 10 Things Girls Need Most\\xa0are in four million homes and 31 languages.\\xa0 They have influenced the way we look at childhood and especially the development of boys and men. Today, the mental health of girls and young women globally is also a major focus of his.

Steve was voted Australian Father of the Year 2001 for his work encouraging dads, and a Member of the Order of Australia for his work in young people\\u2019s mental health. He has two grown up children, and lives in Tasmania with his wife and co-author Shaaron.

In Part 2, listen as we discuss:

  • The challenges, quirks, and benefits of being a special needs child.
  • The masks of manhood: the Joker, the Go-Getter, the Tough Guy, and the Cool Guy.
  • How do we save our boys from wearing those masks?
  • Rupture and Repair: the unavoidable, error-prone, effective way to parent.
  • Gold nugget: Owning up to our mistakes makes our kids feel okay to be human.
  • A father can show his girl that the world is for them through exploration.
  • How girls can be raised to resist anxieties and manipulation by boys.
  • The highly tuned social sense of young girls makes the internet a nightmare.
  • Checking social media is not fun. It's an expression of worry.
  • "Too sexy too soon," and how corporations manipulate our girls into anxiety.
  • Teaching a girl to say "I love my body!" and never feel pressure to fit in.
  • The modern question of raising children knowing what we know about gender identity.
