The rise of the “cancel culture” is ingrained into our conversation, and caused a lot of celebrity to succumb to this ideology of being cancelled. This episode will talk about being cancelled, and do we have the right to cancel anyone out of anything. What benefit are we getting out of cancelling someone? I think as a society we need a better understanding on why we cancel people, and have an approach to dealing with people who standpoints are harmful and offensive. To cancel a person is ultimately a manner in which we are stripping away the power of the offender, and holding he or she accountable of their actions. Furthermore, It is to divert the attention away from the offender, and silence them for good. Does the “cancel culture” limits me from my first amendment right? People will forever express themselves in many facets, but we have to know when it’s appropriate to “cancel” a person versus cancelling someone because it the latest thing trending on twitter.

“Given the fast-paced nature of social media, this means that people who are called out are often ostracized — immediately unfollowed or blocked —before they even get a chance to redeem themselves.- Women’s Media Center
