Seeking to understand your own contrast is so powerful because you see it as a gift rather than with shame, guilt, and self-deception. Shining a light on your own darkness is a great teacher.

This applies to other situations as well. If you think you know everything there is to know about why someone did a certain action, behaved a certain way and then judge them for it...think again. Seeking to understand another person's point of view (not that you have to agree with it) allows you the opportunity to approach the person(s) with wisdom. Now that's refreshing!
