We all talk about the importance of access to energy, but do we really understand the impact such ideas and projects can truly have? An example of this is the award-winning solar and storage microgrid at the Matongo Birthing Hospital in Kenya's Kisii county. This project, which was supported by the global nonprofit solar developer United Solar Initiative and Curamericas Global, ensures that the facility has access to a sustainable and reliable source of power 24 hours a day, seven days a week. Anne Nyangweso, Community Coordinator for the KIKOP Project and Samantha Childress, Schneider Electric microgrid solution architect and board member for United Solar Initiative, talk us through what this initiative has meant for the women and children of Matongo and why access to energy should be a top priority for every government and business.
