Are Superheroes Even Interesting Anymore?

Its 2020.

2019 was probably the biggest year for superhero movies with avengers endgame breaking records we didnt even know existed. Now that that saga is over, we are left sitting in an already saturated market of off the cuff superhero movies and tv shows. With Marvel spinning off into..well spinoffs and DC basically pretending like the last five years didnt exist we’ve entered an age of tv and movie watchers who are tired of the genre and are looking for something new. The kids that watched iron man grow from a narcissistic billionaire into the human being who defeated Thanos, are now grown up. In my opinion, producers and networks should just stop making superhero movies. The fad is over, give it a rest. There’s all sorts of genres to go deep into. But im a realist. I know that that’s definitely not gonna happen.

But im willing to compromise. I wouldn’t mind continuing to watch movies based on comic books if at least the story isn’t the same run down, end of the world plot. We’ve already seen movies like Joker breaking that mold and giving us something fresh in a saturated genre.

So that begs the question - how do you make superhero movies interesting in 2020?

Last week I watched two movies that tackled that exact same problem. I sat down on my couch with a bag of - you guessed it, butter popcorn and I decided to endure two movies that I knew from the offset, would either be completely forgettable, or something that made me believe that there was still a future for this genre.
