Due to all the Covid lockdowns many visually impaired young people have been and are still being schooled at home by their parents.

Here at RNIB Connect Radio we wondered what home schooling might be like for a sighted parent of a visually impaired young person during lockdown.

Connect Radio\\u2019s Toby Davey caught up with Karen Newell from York who has been, as Karen puts it, \\u2018remote schooling\\u2019 with her 10-year-old son Fred.

Karen explained how she and her son Fred have been coping during the lockdown while home schooling. \\xa0

The great support Karen has had from Fred\\u2019s school, Fred\\u2019s Teaching Assistant and Qualified Teacher of visual Impairment. How both Karen and Fred have been getting used to some of the assistive technology that Fred uses at home for all his lessons and schoolwork.

Karen also talks about how creative she has been with bringing some of Fred\\u2019s schoolwork to life through whatever is around the house at the time. \\xa0
