The prophet Isaiah told the people of God about the coming Messiah some 700 years before the birth of Jesus. In Isaiah 9, several names are listed describing various attributes of God. Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, and the Prince of Peace are among those names give to describe Immanuel, or ‘God with us.’ Nearly three centuries later, we still have much to gain from understanding what Isaiah was telling us about Jesus, why God coming down to man is such a shift from all other religions, and what this means for our lives, not only at Christmas time, but every day.
