b'Jonathan Hiam serves as Curator of Music & Recorded Sound at the New York Public Library for the Performing Arts. \\xa0He is a specialist\\xa0in American music, with a particular emphasis on the music and sounds of the Twentieth-Century.\\xa0 He has curated several notable exhibitions in New York, including\\xa0Toscanini: Preserving a Legacy in Sound\\xa0\\xa0(2018),\\xa0Celebrating Lou Reed\\xa0\\xa0(2018), and\\xa0Do What I Want: Selections from the Arthur Russell Papers\\xa0\\xa0(2017).\\xa0 Recent research has focused on the recording industry, British popular music, Black Mountain College, audio preservation, and John Cage.\\xa0\\xa0He holds a PhD in Musicology from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, an MA in Music History and Literature from Boston University, and a BM in Vocal Performance from SUNY Fredonia.'
