Jonathan Hiam serves as Curator of Music & Recorded Sound at the New York Public Library for the Performing Arts. \xa0He is a specialist\xa0in American music, with a particular emphasis on the music and sounds of the Twentieth-Century.\xa0 He has curated several notable exhibitions in New York, including\xa0Toscanini: Preserving a Legacy in Sound\xa0\xa0(2018),\xa0Celebrating Lou Reed\xa0\xa0(2018), and\xa0Do What I Want: Selections from the Arthur Russell Papers\xa0\xa0(2017).\xa0 Recent research has focused on the recording industry, British popular music, Black Mountain College, audio preservation, and John Cage.\xa0\xa0He holds a PhD in Musicology from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, an MA in Music History and Literature from Boston University, and a BM in Vocal Performance from SUNY Fredonia.
