Peter Doherty is an Australian veterinary surgeon. A lot of his time is also spent researching immunity to influenzas at Melbourne's Peter Doherty Institute, for which he is the patron and the institution's namesake.

The Doherty Institute is a joint venture between The University of Melbourne and The Royal Melbourne Hospital. It houses a group of infection and immunology experts who are leading the battle against infectious diseases in humans.

In 1995 Peter was awarded the Albert Lasker prize for discovering how the immune system recognises virus infected cells. The following year he received the Nobel Prize for the same discovery. Peter was also named Australian of the Year in 1997 and was awarded the Order of Australia in the same year.

On the podcast we discussed the vaccine rollout, 20th century history and the origins of the COVID-19 Pandemic.
