When Life isn’t Exciting

Did you know the words “excite,” “excited,” and “exciting” don’t appear in most modern Bible translations? In the NIV, the one exception is Job 39:24, but the Lord is talking about war horses, not about us!. Contrary to the not-so-subliminal messages we see on social media, our lives are not meant to be exciting each and every day. Instead, most days are just normal, routine, and yet important to our well-being and future. When the Lord blesses us with fresh new experiences of His wonderful providence, and gives us other reasons for true excitement, we gladly praise Him. We also want to praise the Lord every other day, even the dull ones. Any person’s failures to do the latter always come with the loss of potential future blessings. That’s why the apostle Paul reminds us to pray every day “with thanksgiving,” (Philippians 4:6), and to “give thanks in all circumstances; for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus” (1 Thessalonians 5:18). No matter what, our greatest joy comes from praising the Lord our God. Let’s do so again today. This is Luis Palau.
