The Key Ingredient

Throughout my time in ministry, many people have approached me, and my wife Pat, asking “How can I raise godly children?” Now there is no special formula to raise well behaved kids who love Jesus, and we aren’t experts by any means. But throughout the years, I have observed one key ingredient that helps a child foster a relationship with God – and that is by them watching you, their parent, walk in a passionate relationship with God. The Bible says in Deuteronomy 6:5-6, “You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your might. And these words that I command you today shall be on your heart. You shall teach them diligently to your children, and shall talk of them when you sit in your house…” When children see adults love Jesus, they are likely to want to know more about Him themselves. That was my experience as a child.  My parents walked with Jesus and they taught me how to love Him. This week, consider reaching your world by starting at home. Do you have a son or daughter who doesn’t quite understand Jesus’ love? Talk to them. Pray for them. Pray with them daily. Be an example to them. Sharing the Good News with your children, and securing eternity with them is the very best thing you can do.       This is Luis Palau.
