Stand out amidst Skeptics

In certain fields of study, having a faith in Jesus is often scoffed at. One field in particular is the field of science. Time and time again, I’ve seen well-educated men and women truly believe they have all the answers—that science can explain everything—but even with these so called answers, I’ve watched these people agonize as they contemplate death.   One man, however, stands out amongst these people, and his name is Francis Collins. Francis S Collins is the physician and geneticist behind the Human Genome Project, and the director of the National Institutes of Health. He also founded BioLogos—which is a group that fosters conversations about Christianity and science. In an interview with the National Geographic Magazine, Collins was asked if he thought science and religion were compatible, He said, “Science and faith can actually be mutually enriching…” and later in the article, he said, “at the most fundamental level, it’s a miracle that there’s a universe at all… Contemplating this, an open-minded observer is almost forced to conclude that there must be a ‘mind’ behind all this…”   I was inspired by the example Collins set; he is someone standing firm in his faith, unashamed of Jesus, and using his platform in the scientific community to really make a difference. So, as you go about your week, I encourage you to stand firm in your faith. Model your life after Christ, and take opportunities to share Jesus with the people around you. Jesus says in John 14:6, “I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me”. This is Luis Palau.
