I’ve talked with thousands of people about the Good News of Jesus Christ. From my experience I have learned that if we really want to, we can start a spiritual conversation with practically anyone we meet. How? The answer is simple. If you want to start a spiritual conversation, all you have to do is ask a leading question. Asking a question requires a response, and most people will become involved and respond to your question. First, you must have a genuine and significant conversation (even if it’s short). There are all sorts of questions you could use… You could say, “What do you think of when you hear people talking about God?” or “Do you have any spiritual beliefs?” “Where do you stand spiritually?” You might also try some more direct questions—I often use these when I’m talking to someone who might be older, or closer to death. I’ll ask, “Do you have the assurance of eternal life? Do you know that you’re going to heaven? Why or why not?” or maybe even, “What do you think happens after people die?” You’d be surprised at how easily people open up to you and share their thoughts, even if they are complete strangers. Let’s ask questions and then try to lead our friends to put their hope in Jesus Christ, because Psalm 147:11 says, “…the Lord delights in those who fear Him, who put their hope in His unfailing love.” This is Luis Palau.
