The Mindset of a Conqueror

Published: Oct. 14, 2020, 10 a.m.

Welcome to episode #25! In this week's episode, Matt and Braden tackle one of the biggest traps in porn addiction - the victim mindset. Victim thinking will keep people stuck in sin forever if it's not recognized, addressed, and done away with. Learn how to do just that, so you can come away with the mindset of a conqueror.

Victims Blame Anyone and Anything
When someone has taken on the mindset of a victim, they blame anyone and anything for what's going wrong in their lives because it's more comfortable to do that than to take responsibility. Victims think they are entitled to great things and are appalled and offended at anyone who does them wrong. Because of this, their sin is always the fault of a less-than-ideal situation and they fail to take initiative in fixing their mistakes.

Remember What We Deserve
The Bible says that the wages of sin is death. That means that if we've sinned, we deserve death and hell. Therefore, we don't 'deserve' anything good to happen in our lives and even the worst things that happen to us aren't as bad as what we deserve. Victim thinking leads people to have a 'woe is me' attitude, but remembering what we actually deserve opens the door to being able to give thanks and take initiative in every situation.

Conquering The Victim Mindset

  • We need people around us who won't enable blame-shifting and feeling sorry for ourselves. The community in our lives is crucial to learning how to think differently.
  • Have a character-based goal of what kind of person you want to be. Victims think they'll never be okay until their circumstances are perfect. People who are more than conquerors, as the Bible says, stay rock solid in any situation.
  • Learn to see beauty in your life and then dwell on it. Dwell on things to be thankful for instead of letting the moments pass.

Doing these things will empower you to conquer any semblance of victimhood that exists in your thinking and will set you up to stay free from porn and sin, no matter how hard life gets.
