Stanley Cup Champion Ryan Walter: Boundaries In Marriage

Published: Feb. 10, 2021, 8:12 a.m.

Welcome to episode #42! This week, Braden and his better half (wife Kristen), chat with former NHL player Ryan Walter and his wife Jenn. They discuss what it meant to have healthy boundaries in marriage while navigating a pro hockey career.

Healthy boundaries start with an agreement
Ryan and Jenn were able to build health in their marriage because they discussed and were in agreement about their boundaries. When a couple is on the same page with the expectations in their marriage, it creates a strength in the relationship that isn't there if things are left up in the air.

Healthy boundaries are only good if implemented
We can talk all we want, but if there is no follow-through or action taken then the boundaries mean little. Ryan and Jenn learned to actually live out the boundaries they were in agreement about to protect their marriage, even in the midst of a high-stress, high-profile life and career.

Boundaries bring safety and security
Building a marriage requires trust, love, and acceptance. It also means building into each other by cultivating safety and security. This means that having godly boundary markers for both spouses to operate within so that they both feel safe and secure in each other's love and commitment.
