Sorry! Marriage Won't Fix Your Porn Problem

Published: Jan. 13, 2021, 12:30 p.m.

Welcome to episode #38! In this week's episode, Matt and Braden discuss why marriage isn't the solution to a porn problem like so many single people hope it will be.

Porn Isn't About Sex
It's easy to think that more sex will cure the need for porn - until we realize that aren't sex drive isn't always related to porn use. Going deeper and finding the reasons why you use porn as a single person will help you grow as a person, while allowing you to view sex in a healthy way while single, but especially when you get married.

With Marriage Comes Trouble
Of course, marriage should bring joy. That's God's hope for marriages, but still, 1 Corinthians 7:28 says, "Those who marry will face many troubles in this life." If we've always satisfied our sexual or emotional urges through porn every time we've ever wanted to as a single, but then we get married and realize that our spouse isn't there to cater to our every desire whenever we want it, how are we going to handle rejection? It's even not uncommon for there to be trauma or stress about sex in marriage, so thinking that wild sex twice per day is going to solve your porn problem is putting your hope in a fantasy that will never come to pass.

Singles Have A Great Opportunity
Chances are, you will face consequences of your sin in your marriage, even if you've dealt with it as a single. However, the trouble it brings into your marriage will be so much less than if you continue your porn addiction after saying, "I do." Getting to know yourself, why you've acted habitually, and how you can conquer your emotions and your desires as a single person will set you up to prosper in your marriage, or future life as a single if you never get married, in a big way. Getting porn out of your life now is so worth it.
