Parents Beware: Porn Is Coming For Your Kids with Marilyn Evans

Published: Dec. 16, 2020, 9 a.m.

Welcome to episode #34! In this week's episode, Matt and Braden talk to Marilyn Evans from Parents Aware to help create awareness on how porn will affect their child.

Porn Targets Children
Porn companies attach misspelled words like 'gummy bares' or 'hot weels' that kids might type into search engines as tags and keywords to their videos. This way, when kids do searches with these words, porn videos pop up. They want people to be lifelong porn consumers so they target them when their brains are years away from being fully developed.

Social Media Creates Vulnerability
The pressures that teens face in keeping up with their friends on all of the different social media apps and devices that they have is immense. It's not the healthiest form of communication or entertainment and so as the pressure mounts and the emotional awareness increases in their lives, teens become vulnerable to looking for an escape. If they've been exposed to porn in the past, often that will be where they go.

Most Parents Are Unaware
Studies show that parents may know the problem of porn exists, but think that their teen has never seen it. In reality, the majority of teens have seen pornography so parents can't be naïve or simply hopeful that their children are the exceptions.
