Myth Busters: Porn, Libidos And A Lifelong Battle

Published: Aug. 4, 2021, noon

Welcome to episode #69!
This week, Matt and Braden bust the myths that say porn use is tied to libidos and will be an overwhelming, lifelong battle.

Myth 1: Porn use is tied to your libido
Porn use doesn't increase and decrease in correlation with people's sex drives. If that were the case, people in their 50s and 60s wouldn't ever experience an increase in their porn use, but in reality, they often do.

Porn use is more an issue of brain chemistry, emotional maturity, and spiritual understanding. When you start to figure out the reasons you go to sexual vices, instead of just claiming it's because you're horny, you can finally start to move towards the freedom that you hopefully desire.

Myth 2: Sexual temptation will be a lifelong battle
When you're in the thick of your battle with sexual vices, it's so overwhelming that you think the level of temptation that you currently experience will last forever. After all, it's often all you've ever known. The truth is that when when you learn to live with spiritual authority and emotional maturity, your brain rewires and the temptation doesn't come with the same frequency or strength. You will still be tempted sexual every so often, but it becomes like a fly that you swat away, rather than a bear chasing you down in a forest.
