Matt's Story: Beating Insecurities For Good

Published: Nov. 18, 2020, 10 a.m.

Welcome to episode #30! In this week's episode, Matt and Braden talk about the link between insecurities and porn, where insecurities come from, and what can be done to overcome them.

Insecurities Negatively Impact How We Perceive Life
Typically, insecurities come from a legitimate situation that hurt us. The hurt that we feel gets rooted in us and attaches itself to our identity. This then changes the way we perceive situations to the point where even when we receive love from someone, we will often miss it or deny the love we're receiving.

Forgiveness Is For Other People
People will often say that we need to forgive those who hurt us so that our hearts don't end up bitter. While unforgiveness will lead to bitterness, this is never the Biblical reason for forgiving. God wants us to have a heart for others - even those who hurt us - when we think about forgiving. Forgiving those who hurt us, while praying for God to bless them and move in their lives, will change the way we feel about them and help us move toward gaining authority over our insecurity.

Insecurities Have Layers
As we open up our hearts to God, He will reveal to us all of the different parts of our lives that are affected by insecurity. He'll show us where we aren't seeing things correctly and will even give us new perspectives about Him, ourselves, other people, and life in general. When we think we've totally overcome a limiting mindset rooted in insecurity, we still need to be self-aware and search things out in prayer to see whether or not there are traces of it remaining.
