Developing Practical Intimacy With Jesus

Published: Feb. 3, 2021, 1 p.m.

Welcome to episode #41! This week, Matt and Braden share little tips that they have found powerful in making prayer and Bible reading come alive and help them grow their relationships with Jesus.

Don't Chase A Feeling
We can certainly feel God at times, whether that's emotionally or physically, but the feeling isn't what we should chase. God says, "Be still and know that I am God," not 'feel' that I am God. When we rise above the need for feeling, it grows our relationship with Jesus so that even when we aren't feeling or seeing Him every day, we still know He's with us. This negates the temptation to think He's not with us or doesn't care about our lives.

Pray About Everything - And Then Listen
Not sure if God hears your prayer? Tell Him. Don't know how to pray? Tell Him that too. Develop the kind of conversation with God where you're telling Him everything throughout your day - even if you think He'll be offended. He won't be. Tell Him about all of your deepest emotions and ask for specifics when you make requests. That way you'll be able to see when He answers you specifically, which will become an exciting testimony to take with you for the rest of your life.

Personalize Scripture
When you're reading Scripture, quality is better than quantity. We all want to read the Bible in a year, but if it doesn't sink in and transform us, we need to change our goal. The Bible is meant to transform us so it feels dry, slow down, meditate on a verse, and personalize it with your name. For example, in John 3:16, say, "For God so loved me that He sent His one and only Son, so that because I believe in Him, I shall not perish, but will have life eternal, etc." Doing this makes the Bible come alive in your life and indwells you with more Heavenly power that you always have access to.
