Are You Sorry You Look At Porn? How You Can Know For Sure!

Welcome to episode #26! In this week's episode, Matt and Braden discuss why being sorry is only part of the equation towards healing. They break down why repentance is a far better mindset to have and what that means for our lives.

There is a difference between being sorry and being repentant
When someone is sorry they look at porn it is often because they feel bad they got caught or feel guilty for what they've done. Being repentant means asking for forgiveness and turning from the behavior. This speaks to taking action to pursue a different way of handling stress, temptations, and sexual urges.

Worldly Sorrow vs Godly Sorrow
We often feel bad when we get caught. We feel regret because of getting caught rather than over what we were caught doing. That is what worldly sorrow is all about. Godly sorrow is responding to God's love and kindness, as well as His conviction, to turn from sinful behavior from things like pornography. This is a far better mindset as it leads to lasting change and a healthier life stance. 2 Corinthians 7:10 says: "For the kind of sorrow God wants us to experience leads us away from sin and results in salvation. There’s no regret for that kind of sorrow. But worldly sorrow, which lacks repentance, results in spiritual death."

Are you repentant or unrepentant? Why that question matters in dealing with Porn!

  • When you think about your life, are you holding back in following God's plan for healing and repentance (full honesty, asking for forgiveness from God and others, entering into a healing community, having ongoing accountability, etc.)?
  • Or are you doing it your own way (maintaining hiddenness, secrets, no support, rationalization or denial)?

Asking the tough questions about where you're currently at is a great start to move towards true repentance, as you are honest and genuine. Real healing requires you to be authentic, with yourself, God, and others.
