4 Must-Do's To Beat Porn

Published: Nov. 25, 2020, 11:30 a.m.

Welcome to episode #31! In this week's episode, Matt and Braden talk about four simple steps everyone should take to get porn out of their lives and move towards growth and healing!

Must-Do #1: Remove Access
If we have access to our drug of choice (sexual vice), it will be very hard to have any degree of success and we can stay stuck in a rut. We have to get drastic in removing our access to porn, whether that is throwing out all things that tempt us towards porn, getting rid of apps, or even limiting our access to a computer or our phone.

Must-Do #2: Get In Community
Isolation is one of the biggest obstacles to getting healing and to growing away from porn. We NEED community - first with accountability partners and then with a healthy recovery group. We need to be able to share to become self-aware and to heal, and we need to have good leaders help us move towards a healthier lifestyle. We need to step into the light of fellowship!!! As it says in 1 John 1:5-7: "This is the message we have heard from him and declare to you: God is light; in him there is no darkness at all. If we claim to have fellowship with him and yet walk in the darkness, we lie and do not live out the truth.  But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus, his Son, purifies us from all sin".

Must-Do #3: Decision Making
When we are in the midst of an addiction to porn, our brain has been hi-jacked and re-wired and it can seriously impair our ability to make good decisions.  We have to make proactive decisions instead of reactive ones, as we don't have a good ability in the moment to say 'no.' Instead, we need to make our decisions when we are in a better state of mind and we need to choose to move towards healing and growth instead of just avoiding porn.

Must-Do #4: Set A Vision
We need to have a vision for what a healthy life looks like. Not just a life without porn, but a life that is healthy in all aspects!  Having this vision for our life gives us goals, something to strive towards, and something that keeps us going and persevering day in and day out.
