This week we are going to learn about the Digital Nomads in Puerto Vallarta and I have a really neat guest, Chase Buckner, who runs a place called Vallarta Co-Work. But before we get to the interview, let’s see what’s happening in Puerto Vallarta this week, the 11th of April, 2018.

Puerto Vallarta Marathon

[caption id="attachment_2845" align="alignright" width="300"] Vallarta Marathon[/caption] On April 15 Puerto Vallarta will be celebrating the 100 year anniversary with a Centennial Marathon. This event is open to runners and to the general public. The award includes three prizes of $10,000; $6,000 and $5,000 for the first, second and third place finishers. Start and finish for the marathon will be at the port terminal at 6:30 in the morning. That, along with the half marathon race. Registration fee is $600 and you can register until April 13. Check out the show notes if you are interested in taking part in the Centennial Marathon in Puerto Vallarta. Videos of The Los Muertos Pier Being Built

My buddy Brad posted some old videos he took back in August of 2012 of the Los Muertos Pier being built. It’s pretty cool, he has two videos and I have them in the show notes of this episode, so if you want to see what it was like during the construction, check it out. And thanks Brad for letting me use the video.    

 

  Brad and his wife Tami were on the show last May. Make Black and White Copies of Your Passport and Driver’s License

 I want to talk with you about carrying around your passports and ID, like your drivers’ license when you are vacationing in paradise. This was prompted by a post I read a couple of days ago on the Facebags. The poster was stopped by a traffic cop in Puerto Vallarta and told he had committed a violation of some sort or another, like illegally parking or something. Anyway, the cop asked to see his driver’s license. He handed over the license, and the cop told him that he would be holding on to the license until he was paid a 500 peso fine. The guy didn’t know what to do, he got nervous and paid the cop. The cop returned the license and off he went. Here’s the thing. That cop was a bad cop. He was looking for a payoff. Easy money right? Now we have never talked about this, but it’s pretty important. You should never be walking around with your passport and ID. Before you leave for Vallarta, make black and white copies of your passport and driver’s license. I usually make a couple of copies in case I leave it in my pocket by mistake and wash it. When you get to your hotel, or Airbnb or condo or to that place under the overpass, wherever you are staying, lock up your passport and ID till you get ready to come home. [caption id="attachment_2854" align="aligncenter" width="1000"] Make Black and White Copies of Your Passport and License[/caption] Now, don’t make color copies, this is illegal, and the Mexican authorities consider that a form of counterfeiting, so make the copies in black and white only. When a cop or person of authority takes the ID from you, that is actually how they do it. You don’t get it back until you go in to pay the fine, but don’t pay the cop. Never pay the cop unless of course you feel your life is in danger. If that happens, take a photo of the cop. Ask to see his or her badge, and if all else fails, take a picture of the vehicle they are riding in. Take it to the tourist office in Lazaro Cardenas Park. It’s the building near the corner of Pino Suarez and Venustiano Carranza, in the park. They usually have an abogado on site. An attorney or two who are there for you gringos out there. I will have a picture of the location you go to if you are having issues. [caption id="attachment_2857" align="aligncenter" width="800"] Make Black and White Copies[/caption] So again, don’t carry your passports or licenses around. Black and white copies. Make a couple. And don’t hand over the real document to the cop. Now if that’s all you have and you are faced with that situation, tell the cop that you will meet him at the traffic counter and pay the fine there, and get back your license. Then see what happens. It’s possible you will get back the whole enchilada without spending a dime. I have the address of the Ayuntamiento de Puerto Vallarta, That’s City Hall. It’s close to the Marina, Just a little inland from there in the Agua Zarca Colonia. That’s where you will tell the officer you will be paying the ticket. Can you remember that? That ought to get his attention. Hey, I’ll meet you at the ayuntamiento amigo! Ha. I Have a map of City Hall two in the show notes so for sure get familiar with it if you like.

Have you ever wondered what it might be like to be able to go anywhere in the world, [caption id="attachment_2842" align="alignright" width="364"] Vallarta Cowork[/caption] anywhere you like, like Puerto Vallarta for example, and do your job from there? I know I have! All that you would need would be good internet speed, a comfortable place to get your work done, a place with few distractions, and maybe even a place with people like you, who have ditched the regular 9-5 world, dodging the congested highways and byways that would take them to their place of employment, for the life of a Digital Nomad.  That’s right, a Digital Nomad! Digital Nomads have found a way to get their jobs done from anywhere in the world, and one of those places is in Puerto Vallarta at a place called Vallarta Co-Work. [caption id="attachment_2837" align="alignleft" width="300"] Vallarta Cowork[/caption] I met Chase Buckner quite by accident. I was talking with a guy named Tex, I know, sounds funny, but Tex was working the door at Joe Jack’s Fish Shack on Bassilio Badillo, and I was asking if I could get an interview with the owner of the place. I explained what I do, and his face lit up and he asked, have you spoken with Chase Buckner? He would be a great interview. So, I walked over to Vallarta Co-Work, introduced myself and asked him if he would tell you guys what he does in paradise. His place is on the second floor, in the Santander Bank Building right next to L´Angolo di Napoli, you knew it as Bella Napoli, right next to the parking structure right on the Malecon. So let’s go right now to Puerto Vallarta Mexico, to the offices of Vallarta Co-Work, and meet the head Digital Nomad himself, Chase Buckner.
