Academy award-winning producer Mark Johnson (Rain Man, Breaking Bad, Downsizing) joins me in studio to talk about working with Academy award-winning director Alexander Payne (Nebraska, Sideways, Downsizing) on Downsizing. We also talk about his transition from feature films into TV, and how he got his start working on films in Spain.

Producer\\xa0Mark\\xa0Johnson\\xa0won the Best Picture Academy Award\\xae for the 1988 drama\\xa0Rain Man\\xa0and two Emmys\\xae for Outstanding Drama Series (2013 and 2014) for\\xa0Breaking Bad. His career as a producer of more than 40 feature films includes\\xa0Diner;\\xa0The Natural;\\xa0Good Morning, Vietnam; Best Picture nominee\\xa0Bugsy, which earned a total of 10 Oscar\\xae nominations; Clint Eastwood\\u2019s\\xa0A Perfect World;\\xa0Alfonso Cuaron\\u2019s\\xa0A Little Princess;\\xa0Mike Newell\\u2019s gangster drama\\xa0Donnie Brasco\\xa0starring Al Pacino and Johnny Depp; the sci-fi comedy\\xa0Galaxy Quest\\xa0starring Tim Allen and Sigourney Weaver;\\xa0The Notebook, adapted from Nicholas Sparks\\u2019 best-selling novel; and the\\xa0Chronicles of Narnia\\xa0franchise. He is currently in post-production on the Alexander Payne film\\xa0Downsizing\\xa0starring Matt Damon; Steven Soderbergh\\u2019s\\xa0Logan Lucky\\xa0starring Channing Tatum and Daniel Craig; and the Australian indie film\\xa0Breath, based on the novel of the same name by lauded Australian author Tim Winton.

In the television space,\\xa0Johnson\\xa0was an executive producer of the Peabody\\xae, Golden Globe\\xae, and Emmy\\xae award\\u2013winning drama\\xa0Breaking Bad\\xa0from the beginning of the series. The first season of\\xa0Breaking Bad\\u2019s acclaimed spinoff series\\xa0Better Call Saul\\xa0was widely praised by fans and critics alike, garnering seven Primetime Emmy\\xae Award nominations, two Critics Choice Television Awards, and named Outstanding New Program as awarded by the Television Critics Association. In 2016, the second season of\\xa0Better Call Saul\\xa0won an AFI Award for TV Program of the year and garnered six Emmy\\xae Award nominations, a Producers Guild nomination, and a Golden Globe\\xae nomination.\\xa0Mark\\xa0Johnson\\u2018s television achievements also include the Sundance Channel\\u2019s first scripted series\\xa0Rectify, which won the coveted Peabody\\xae Award and garnered three Critics Choice Television Award nominations in 2016, including Best Drama Series. Along with\\xa0Better Call Saul, he is currently also executive producing AMC\\u2019s\\xa0Halt and Catch Fire, which begins production on its fourth season this year, and Hulu\\u2019s\\xa0Shut Eye.

Johnson\\xa0currently serves on the Board of Governors for the Motion Picture Academy representing the Producers\\u2019 Branch and is the Chair of the Academy\\u2019s Foreign Language Film Selection Committee.
