The world of technology is ever-evolving, and with it comes new and innovative ways to stay secure. LapLok is a revolutionary new product that provides physical laptop security for the work-from-anywhere world. Developed by TechLock Solutions, LapLok is the world's first retrofitting physical laptop security device.
Security for the new business world
Since the beginning of 2020, the world has changed a lot. One of the biggest changes has come about in the way we work. Some jobs require that you be in person - it's hard to ring up groceries from home, for example. For many other industries, however, working from home has become the normal situation. In fact, many companies have given up their offices entirely or scaled them back significantly.
When you don't have to be in a particular place to work, it means you can work from nearly anywhere. Many people have begun traveling during the week - working during the day and exploring at night. This means finding a place to work during the day, though. This can be at restaurants, coffee shops, libraries, and more. The only common feature is that you have to keep an eye on your stuff while you're working.
When you need to get up to use the bathroom, get another coffee, or even have a conversation, you normally have to take your laptop with you. With LapLok, though, you can leave your laptop at your table without feeling like it's going to walk away as soon as you turn your back.
Secure laptops with LapLok
LapLok is easy to use and provides a high level of security for your laptop. It is a one-time mounted arm that stays on the bottom of your laptop. When you want to use the product, you swing the arm out and fit the top of the LapLok into the mouth of the arm. You then bring that to the top of the table, clamp down, hit your lock button, and you're locked in.
The product also features a custom three to five-digit pin code, an accelerometer, and an intelligent password recovery system. The accelerometer will detect if someone is trying to steal your laptop and will set off an alarm. The password recovery system will allow you to get an automated text back to yourself on your cell phone if you forget your code.
The product is currently in development and will be ready to sell direct online from their website in two to three months. The price point is $79.95 and it comes with a little baggy pouch to store it away, rubber feet for your laptop, and three other accessories. The product runs on two 3-volt batteries that last three to four years, depending on usage.

Daniele is a software engineer at Lockheed Martin after graduating from Florida Polytechnic University. In High School, she was introduced to the science and technology world through the Foundation for Inspiration and Recognition of Science and Technology (FIRST), a robotics foundation where students of varying ages can compete through tasks that their robots perform. With help from mentors she met through FIRST, she became interested in programming and developing. Today, Daniele is a special events host for F5 Live: Refreshing Technology and PLUGHITZ Live Presents and a co-host for both The New Product Launchpad and FIRST Looks.
Scott is a developer who has worked on projects of varying sizes, including all of the PLUGHITZ Corporation properties. He is also known in the gaming world for his time supporting the rhythm game community, through DDRLover and hosting tournaments throughout the Tampa Bay Area. Currently, when he is not working on software projects or hosting F5 Live: Refreshing Technology, Scott can often be found returning to his high school days working with the Foundation for Inspiration and Recognition of Science and Technology (FIRST), mentoring teams and helping with ROBOTICON Tampa Bay. He has also helped found a student software learning group, the ASCII Warriors, currently housed at AMRoC Fab Lab.
