b'I lost my mother in 2013 after years of decline that finally landed her at Jefferson University Hospital. As her only child with no other family in the area \\u2013 those last months were difficult beyond my ability to describe. What eased my heart was the incredible care she received - in particular from a doctor who took time to get to know her story \\u2013 her history. I later discovered he talked about her to his team of interns and residents to remind them of the importance of truly knowing their patients beyond the numbers. Now Dr. Christopher Haines has taken his love of history and storytelling and applied it to a new book "COVID-19 Essays from the Front: the First Six Months." We talk about the evolving nature of our knowledge of the virus, the treatments, the vaccines and the inspiring courage of his fellow medical professionals and the patients.
