There’s a very cool event coming up the first Saturday in February. It’s the African American Children’s book fair. The authors and illustrators works transcend color. Children, parents and teachers will get a chance to meet Caldecott and Newbury Award winning authors and illustrators and there are free books especially for educators as well as the opportunity to buy books.
Loraine Ballard Morrill speaks with some of the authors featured at the African American Children’s Book Fair along with its founder Vanesse Lloyd Sgambati.

But first we all want to do what we can to move the needle when it comes to poverty in Philadelphia. Loraine believes strongly that getting kids reading at grade level will help in that because. There are a lot of people who feel passionately about this issue including AJ Jordon from Wells Fargo who originally came from the nonprofit world but is now in a position in the corporate world to truly make a difference.
