Clear the Shelters was an effort of NBC partnering with local animal shelters in the United States for a coordinated animal rescue day on Saturday, July 23, 2016. Clear the Shelters has grown in its two years of existence, and over 47,000 pets were adopted in 2016 due to this terrific partnership.

Featuring the local NBC station and many rescue organizations in the San Francisco Bay Area.

Nancy and Harold fostered Chloe, who got adopted, and currently foster Curry. Diane Roth fostered Noodle, who was found extremely malnourished. We interviewed Diane, she was a fascinating guest!

The Good and Bad of Free Adoptions

Clear the Shelters featured either reduced fee or free adoptions. While this positively increases interest in pet adoptions, the downside is free adoptions can attracted people looking for “bait” dogs and cats for dog fighting, along with folks trying to make some quick money. They do this by adopting an animal for free with the intention of selling the animal for a profit.

Look out for future announcements for our Pit Bull series!! Initial episode should be released around the end of August.
