The Department for Child Protection aims to give young South Australians in its care every opportunity to reach their full potential.\\xa0

It works in partnership with vulnerable families, government and non-government organisations, foster carers and the community to care for and protect at risk children and young people by addressing abuse and neglect and keeping them safe from further harm.

One year ago, the department appointed Dr Prue McEvoy as Lead Psychiatric Director - the first psychiatrist in the country to be embedded in a child protection agency.\\xa0
