In this episode of Journey to the Blue Sky, Patricia and Arun discuss about the 2011 Blue Sky Studios animated film Rio. A Spix\'s macaw named Blu was raised by a bookstore owner named Linda in Minnesota after being stolen as a chick by smugglers in Brazil. One day, a ornithologist named Tulio proposes to Linda to bring Blu to Brazil to mate with a female macaw named Jewel since they are the last two of their kind left. They then learn that they are the complete opposites with Blu being timid and domesticated and Jewel loves freedom and the wild forest. Meanwhile, they are kidnapped by smugglers to be sold and are chained together. They end up escaping and try to locate Linda before they are discovered by the smugglers and their cockatoo named Nigel.
