Bill Horan talks with Karen Micciche, Executive Director, Literacy Nassau. During her tenure, she has tripled the annual budget and developed programs to widen its service population, including small group tutoring, free citizenship application assistance and legal consultations for immigrants, an inclusive book club model for adults with developmental disabilities, and more. Karen works with Literacy Nassau’s 500+ volunteers to create new opportunities for tutors and teachers to become certified in Orton-Gillingham and has developed the concept of “donation-based tutoring” for children with learning disabilities, most notably dyslexia.
