My books for men and women\u2014Bigger Leaner Stronger and Thinner Leaner Stronger\u2014include an entire section on the \u201cmental game\u201d of getting fit. I\u2019ve also recently published an entire book on the topic called The Little Black Book of Workout Motivation.
The reason I\u2019ve put a lot of time into discussing the \u201csofter\u201d side of fitness is just knowing what to isn\u2019t enough. You also need a strong enough why\u2014strong enough to help you persevere through the struggles and setbacks, pick yourself up when you fall, and ultimately see your goals through to completion.
Fortunately, you don\u2019t need a psychology degree to accomplish this, either. It mostly boils down to understanding and applying a few powerful mental strategies that effectively combat many of the mental hobgoblins that can sabotage you.
If you can overcome these obstacles, you\u2019ll probably get the body you really want, and if you can\u2019t, you probably won\u2019t. It\u2019s really that simple.
