Really enjoyed my conversation with Monte on the Podcast. He is an inspiration to everyone to pursue their dreams... It\'s never too late!

Born and raised in southern Michigan on a small farm. Married my high school sweetheart Harriet while in college. We have a son, two daughters, six grand children and 6 great grandchildren. Graduated from Michigan State University in 1964 with a BS in Agricultural

Engineering and a commission in the U.S. Army. Served approximately 2 years active duty in the Corps of Engineers including 13 months in Vietnam; discharged as a 1 st Lieutenant.

Started work at Caterpillar Tractor Co. as a research engineer in 1964. Worked innumerous jobs over 33 years in assignments involving research, new product development and testing, manufacturing, quality improvement and human resource development. Retired in 1997. With the military experience and work at Caterpillar I have lived in 6 states and 2 foreign countries.

I have always loved horses and bought my first, a Welsh pony, when I was five. My love of the cowboy life and ways has been lifelong. My father was born in Adams Co.

North Dakota where my Grandfather and Great Grandfather had homesteaded. I believe this is the seed for my western roots. Riding and developing ranch and roping horses is still still provides great pleasure.

I always wanted to learn to rope… for as far back as I can remember, and always fooled around with one at home. In 1993 I had the opportunity to partner on some Corriente cattle and still enjoy raising them; we have a herd registered with the North American Corriente Assn. In 1995 I had the opportunity to attend my first roping clinic. It was fantastic. Since then I have been able to profit from help from so many generous professionals.

Beyond my family, horses, roping and Corriente cattle have been the focus of my retirement. Since 1997 we have been able to spend a good portion of every winter in Wickenburg, Arizona. My wife loves the desert, exploring and walking daily, and I have all the great opportunities to rope there and ride on the desert.

My struggle associated with learning to rope, coupled with my experience in quality improvement led me to write “Rope Your Dream”. This experience has led me to so many wonderful people and so much satisfaction in my retirement. Through this all my wife and family have provided wonderful support and encouragement; and God has blessed me with the health and resources for this incredible enjoyment.
