Are you STRESSING about STAYING ON TRACK over the HOLIDAYS?

Published: Nov. 20, 2020, 8:30 a.m.

I’m so excited for you to dive into this episode because this topic is SUPER important. Many of my clients have been telling me they’re nervous about heading into the holiday season and worried they won’t be able to stay on track. SO I've decided to bring some of my tips to you!

First things first: throw away ANY expectations whether “good or bad” because this holiday season is going to look different than any other year.

We get to choose how every situation feels and what we make of it.

Be GRACEFUL with yourself during this season and know that you’re NOT ALONE.

But ALSO let’s do our best to make the BEST of it.

5 steps to stay on track hormonally over the holidays:

  1. Stick to your MORNING ROUTINE
    • glass of water
    • warm lemon water
    • HIGH PROTEIN BREAKFAST: aim for a smoothie so you can get a ton of greens & nutrients since you probably won’t later in the day.

How you start your day sets the tone for the rest of the day.

  1. MOVE YOUR BODY: Do some kind of movement for 30 minutes before starting your festivities.
    • Movement increases the diversity of gut bacteria
    • It also boosts our mood which is so helpful for this time of year
    • If you can- take a 10 minute walk after dinner to aid digestion & help blood sugar balance

  1. MAKE MINDFUL CHOICES
    • CHOOSE 1 DESSERT AND ENJOY IT rather than taking a bite of every single thing.
    • EAT YOUR VEGGIES FIRST. This aids digestion because it’s loaded with fiber. Meat doesn’t have fiber so pairing it with veggies will help you digest & it will help you feel more full.

  1. HYDRATE
    • drink 1/2 your body weight in ounces of filtered water a day
    • if you’re having some alcohol, increase that amount of water & have water in between each drink
    • room temp water, not cold! Cold water constricts digestion.

  1. BE PREPARED FOR THE NEXT DAY
    • Make sure you have a nutrient dense, fiber rich, high protein breakfast set for the next day
    • get right back into your morning routine

Don’t let 1 day of indulging turn into 2 months of indulging.

MOST IMPORTANTLY: DON’T FEEL GUILTY. Enjoy the holiday and know that it’s not about being perfect! It’s 80/20. One salad isn’t going to cure all your problems just like one indulgence isn’t going to sabotage all the progress you’ve made. It becomes a problem when 1 day of indulgences turns into 1 season. Being stressed & guilty about it causes MORE IMBALANCES than eating it and enjoying it.
