The 2021 film slate is robust with buzzy titles, and they’ll be released throughout the calendar year. But as connoisseurs of all qualities of cinema, great and terrible, we cannot help but wonder which films will disappoint and which others will pleasantly surprise. There are discussions of spring and summer properties like Disney’s Cruella, Pixar’s Luca, and M. Night Shyamalan’s Old. We discuss potential Oscar films like Three Thousand Years of Longing, The Last Duel, Spencer, Being The Ricardos, The Many Saints of Newark, and West Side Story. Plus, Swell finally brings the hammer of logic down on those tall tales of a humongous red dog. Whoever’s not presenting a film has the option to play devil’s advocate, and we often make strong arguments in favor of these films as well. But if one thing’s for sure, regardless of the quality of film, they’ll all be must-see viewing experiences this year.
